About Baldoria Orange Wine - 2020 Vintage

750ml & 18% ABV

Alive. Innate. Enticing.

Brand new to the US and only available on Curiada, this premium farm-to-glass vermouth is made from a biodynamic orange wine produced in the country of Georgia.

Most vermouth doesn't have a vintage, but then again, Baldoria is not most vermouth. Though US import authorities wouldn't allow Baldoria to put the word "wine" nor the vermouth's vintage on the label, it is in fact a distinct expression made with orange wine.

A very limited quantity of these are available, so if you'd like to try what is sure to be one of the most unique bottles of 2023, now's your chance.

Discover how distinctive vermouth can be.

Tasting Notes

The age-old culture of Georgia orange wine production with the ethos of vermouth is a natural pairing. The distinction of the Georgian wine craftsman comes to fruition with the natural botanicals and artistry found in Piemonte, Italy, the birthplace of vermouth. The result is hundreds of years of culture and experience that produce a passionate and beautiful spirit: Baldoria Orange Wine Vermouth vintage 2020.

Baldoria Orange Wine vermouth finds its culinary complements in dishes like lamb, roasted vegetables, semi hard goat cheese and walnuts. Simply delicious!

Suggested Serves

Production Notes

Every Baldoria expression uses as its foundation a high-quality wine carefully selected to complement the botanical profile of the vermouth. The botanicals themselves are prepared using fresh herbs, plants, and flowers that are either harvested in the Alps or grown in the 10 acres surrounding the Italian distillery.

Georgians prefer to call their wines amber. Considered the birthplace of orange (amber) wine, the tradition of making wine in Georgia dates back to 6000 BC. Ripe white grapes with skins, stalks, and pips are placed into a Qvevri, a large clay amphora, buried in the earth to stabilize temperature, sealed and left to ferment for 5-6 months before bottling. This is the essential foundation of Baldoria Orange Wine Vermouth.

Baldoria Vermouth comes to us from the team at The Little Red Door, a Parisian cocktail bar that for the last decade has staked out a top spot as one of the World's 50 Best Bars, among other accolades.

Baldoria launched in Europe in 2020 and is used by many of the world's most elite bars, restaurants, and hotels. Among them The Savoy, London, The Hoxton hotels, the Four Seasons, Firenze, and of course The Little Red Door. The craftspeople at the Little Red Door continually challenge themselves to develop new, fascinating, and delicious ways to enjoy best-quality spirits. Baldoria is their latest venture, with more on the horizon.

Makes an intriguing take on a Negroni

I created the Baldoria Orange Negroni recommended in this product description. I used 1 ounce Baldoria Orange Wine Vermouth, 1 ounce, Baldoria Bitter Vermouth, and 1 ounce Bulldog London Dry Gin. I stirred this over a big block of ice, then expressed an orange peel over the cocktail. This produced a lighter, more herbal take on a Negroni than the traditional cocktail. This Negroni reminds me a bit of the White Negroni. It's possible that gentian is being used as the bittering agent in the bitter vermouth.

Having had orange wine before, those flavor notes came through. I should note that these aren't the flavors of the orange fruit, but of the somewhat astringent wine made with the skins of the grapes present. Trying both the bitter and orange wine vermouths on their own, I prefer the orange wine vermouth. It's a rounder, more balanced flavor with plenty of herbaceous notes to keep it interesting.

I added 0.5 ounce of CioCiaro Amaro to my Baldoria Orange Negroni and immediately preferred this variation. It needed a bit more backbone, as the bitter vermouth isn't as punchy nor as sweet as the Campari that it replaces. That little bit of CioCiaro made a big difference, and I would gladly craft this combination of ingredients again!
