Kate Gerwin recommends Chairman’s Reserve Original Rum, aged 3–5 years in ex-bourbon barrels, for its fine quality, deep notes of caramelized fruit, and distinct St. Lucia style. But as Kate says, one of “the most unique aspect of Chairman’s Reserve, besides the fact that they don’t add additives, is that they don’t emphasize age statements—because the late ‘Chairman,’ Laurie Barnard, believed that no single barrel of rum could ever be better or as interesting as a blend of different components. Chairman’s utilizes three different pot stills of varying types and sizes and a column still, which provides lots of different charactered distillates to create their blends.”
“The Real McCoy 5-Year Rum is a great, versatile rum that works well with cocktails because of the roundness of flavors and underlying spice notes,” says Steva Casey. “Hailing from Barbados, this rum is a blend of column and pot still, which gives it an earthy quality without being too overpowering. It’s great on its own, but works really well in cocktails because it provides a great backbone and complements other strong flavors.” Soft, smooth, and full of luxurious texture, this rum is bound to be a favorite on your bar cart—and, fun fact, The Real McCoy 5-Year Rum is older than most bourbons!
“With an aroma closer to bourbon than what you’d expect from rum, Ten to One Caribbean Dark Rum is the perfect fit! The bold blend of four different rums makes a complex and rich spirit with plenty of oak for a dry finish and ripened fruit notes,” say Caer Maiko.
