Tileño Mezcal Espadin Joven
About Tileño Mezcal Espadin Joven
750ml & 84 Proof
A 100% organic and artisanal mezcal distilled in San Martin Tilcajete, Oaxaca. The Espadin carries notes of green apple, grass, pepper, baking spices and a delicate smoke.
Tileño mezcal is a tribute to the Zapotec people, artisans who are indigenous to this area of Oaxaca. Both the spirit and the packaging itself are crafted to reflect the heritage and the legacy of the Zapotec people, with a commitment to artisanal quality and authentic expression.
The spirit, bottle, and packaging are exactly what you would find locally in Oaxaca -- it has never before been available outside Mexico. Until now -- and you can be the first to try it.
Tileño mezcal is a mixture of the four elements of nature: fire, water, earth, and air, that result in the inheritance of a liquid culture, which is made with the heart.
- José Angeles Elias
Founder José Angeles Elias began distilling Tileño in 2014. It has become known for its excellent quality and its approachable flavor. Exceedingly balanced, the taste of the spirit comes through with a pleasing amount of smoke that enhances rather than overpowers.
This is an ideal bottle for spirit lovers exploring the world of mezcal, as well as for cocktail enthusiasts who enjoy mezcals that marry well with other cocktail ingredients.
Tasting Notes
A delicate smoke. Notes of green apple, grass, pepper, and baking spices.
Suggested Serves
The ginger taste of a Mezcal Mule plays very nicely with the green apple notes.
Production Notes
Tileño Mezcal is roasted, fermented, distilled, and bottled under one roof in San Martin Tilcajete, just an hour outside of Oaxaca City. The Espadin is distilled from cultivated agave about 6-8 years old, which grows adjacent to and in the community around the palenque. The agave is hand-selected for its maturity and sugar content, then roasted in an open pit. The crushing takes place with the "tahona de piedre," after which the crushed agave rests in open wooden vats to ferment for 3-4 days. It is twice distilled in copper pot stills until it reaches desired proof.
Founder Facts
José Angeles Elias began distilling Tileño in 2014. Tileño is the name of the Zapotec community of San Martin Tilcajete that José calls home. The families of the community craft alebrijes, picturesque figures carved and decorated by hand from a tree called "copal." The dyes made for the alebrijes are based on natural elements and inspire the colors of each of Tileños labels. Jose's mission is to ensure that the products he crafts represent the heritage and legacy of the Zapotec people.
