Ryan Maybee recommends enjoying this iconic drink with , made by J. Rieger & Co., Kansas City’s Original Distillery dating back to 1887. It’s a blend of bourbon, rye, and light corn whiskey aged separately for 5–8 years, with just a touch of oloroso sherry, just as it was first produced back in the 1800s. Ryan says, “The nose leads with a strong aroma of rich, earthy maple and bright orange peel and dried stone fruits. On the palate, it’s rich and buttery, with layers of flavor that evolve from fresh cornbread to apple pastry or pie crust. There’s a deep sweetness highlighted by toasted almond, fig, raisins and maple syrup. These characteristics all cascade into a slightly savory and spicy character, like salt-and-pepper-covered Macadamia nuts.”
