    Truly Unique | Punchy | A Triumph of Overproof Rum

    Unaged overproof rums are my favorite. If you want to make a great unaged overproof rum, you have to have confidence that you are making a quality product correctly the first time around and not rely on barrel aging to impart flavor or cover up the unsightly rough edges. There are too few unaged overproof rums in the world and seldom are there new entrants, so when a new one crops up, it better be good.

    This bottle is not just good, it is great. A true triumph of overproof rum that is unique against other unaged overproof rums.

    Nose: Heavy on the banana, very nutty, so nutty, like toasted cashews or pecans, a hint of tobacco and a bit of grass, with some strong ethanol notes on the edges.

    Palate: Hot, overripe banana, toasted nuts, all at once. The toasted nutty flavor (very reminiscent of the nutty smell of browned butter), is also tied up with some grassy notes. It is so flavorful and everything hits at once. It goes from 0-100 so quickly.

    Finish: Long & strong. There's a lot of lingering heat but the nuttiness lasts forever. The overripe banana flavor disappears the fastest while the nuttiness coats the mouth thickly, slowly going away and leaving a very dry, astringent feeling.

    What a ride this rum is. I cannot praise it enough. I need to make a cocktail with it.
