Pierre Ferrand Original Formula 1840 Cognac
About Pierre Ferrand Original Formula 1840 Cognac
A workhorse for your homebar. It dances well with rye in a cocktail like On The Wings of Eagles. Pierre Ferrand Original Formula 1840 Cognac was developed by Ferrand Master Blender, Alexandre Gabriel in collaboration with David Wondrich. They state, "(the spirit is) inspired by cognacs used during the golden age of cocktail-making in the 19th century".
This all makes me wonder, will there be a new golden age of cocktail-making?
Here's the point. This is the cognac for exceptional cocktailing, it's worthy of a place on your shelf and in your cocktail rotation. Look for it on the back bars and cocktail lists of all your favorite cocktail spots.
The house of Pierre Ferrand will tell you to let the flavor shine in a simple cocktail like Jerry Thomas' Mint Julep with cognac.
- 2.5 ounces of Pierre Ferrand Original Formula 1840 Cognac
- 0.5 ounces of Simple Syrup
- 15 mint leaves and a few more to garnish
Tasting Notes for Pierre Ferrand Original Formula (summed up nicely by Stephanie Moreno of Distiller.com)
"The aromas are a pleasant mix without dominating the other of ripe pears, wax, green grapes, and delicate floral notes. These notes don't differ much on the palate but there are added elements of mint and crushed peanuts on its creamy texture. Though this isn't really designed as a sipping cognac, you could certainly do worse.
If you're perusing bottles for your home bar, we recommend more from Maison Ferrand. They are genuinely producers of fine spirits. That's not just marketing talk. One of the most popular bottles on Curiada is Pierre Ferrand Dry Curaçao. And we would be remiss if we didn't recommend Maison Ferrand's collection of Plantation Rums, which are cocktail bar staples in every sense.

Really good stuff for mixing drinks. I’m not a supper of brandy so I can’t really speak to how this is neat, but it’s phenomenal in a Sidecar or Vieux Carré.Best ForRated -2.0 on a scale of minus 2 to 2

I'm not a big Cognac/brandy fan, but need a bottle around now and then. I've heard others say this is pretty good. Seems sweeter tasting than the Remmie Martin 1738 also have. Honestly, I think I like a bit sweeter profile of the PF, so that's good.Best ForRated 0.0 on a scale of minus 2 to 2
