Mellow Corn Straight Corn Whiskey is part of our Whiskey collection. It is crafted in the United States.
Mellow Corn Straight Corn Whiskey is a hidden gem in the world of American whiskey, offering a unique taste profile that's both sweet and robust. Interestingly, this whiskey is bottled-in-bond, meaning it's produced under strict government regulations that ensure its quality and authenticity, making it one of the few corn whiskeys to carry this prestigious designation.
Cocktail enthusiasts should take note of Mellow Corn Straight Corn Whiskey for its distinctive character as a bottled-in-bond corn whiskey, a rare category that requires at least 80% corn in the mashbill and four years of aging. Unlike most whiskeys aged in new charred oak barrels, Mellow Corn uses used barrels, resulting in a lighter color and a unique flavor profile that balances sweet corn notes with subtle oak influences, making it an excellent and affordable base for cocktails that call for a touch of whiskey without overpowering other ingredients.
Mellow Corn Straight Corn Whiskey shines brightest when sipped neat or with a splash of water to open up its sweet, grainy flavors, though it also holds its own in simple whiskey-forward cocktails. Its light, crisp profile makes it a refreshing choice for warm summer evenings, pairing wonderfully with barbecue fare or buttery corn on the cob to complement its cornbread-like notes.
Nose: Sweet corn and vanilla dominate, backed by lighter notes of caramel and oak. There's a hint of ethanol sharpness, typical for a younger whiskey. A subtle grassy freshness emerges as the whiskey opens up.
Palate: Corn sweetness hits first, reminiscent of corn bread or creamed corn. Vanilla and light caramel flavors follow. The mouthfeel is surprisingly oily for a 100 proof whiskey. Oak tannins provide a balancing bitterness, while a peppery spice builds.
Finish: Medium length with lingering sweetness. The corn flavor fades to reveal more oak and vanilla. A slight warmth from the alcohol remains, along with a touch of black pepper. The finish is clean, leaving a subtle corn aftertaste.
Mellow Corn is crafted from a mash bill of at least 81% corn, then aged for a minimum of four years in used oak barrels. What's particularly intriguing about this whiskey is that it's one of the few remaining examples of "bottled-in-bond" corn whiskey, adhering to strict government regulations that ensure a certain level of quality and authenticity in its production.

View RecipesThis isn’t a complex whiskey, but it has a wonderful flavor. Great on the rocks. The low price is much appreciated also.
It lacked any Rye taste, and I personally don't like Rye. I will say that I looked into the details of this product and it apparently is only around 80% mash bill of Corn, no clue what the other 20% is, and I'd love to try a whisky with 100% mash bill of corn at some point.
I just love this whiskey. I drink it on ice and it just hits the spot super easy to drink you forget it’s 100 proof
If you're looking at this page, and at these reviews, you are probably already at least vaguely familiar with Mellow Corn. It is a solid, no-nonsense corn whiskey. It's a bit hot, at 100 proof. I find it to be relatively smooth given that alcohol content but make no mistake, you will be aware of it when it hits. There is a strong corn flavor, and it evolves a little into some vanilla maybe, but otherwise the flavor profile isn't very complicated. For what you're paying though (which is usually pretty low, the price has been going up though unfortunately), you are getting a whiskey that is far better than the price would suggest. You would be hard pressed to find anything nearly as good at a similar price point.
A wonderful whiskey. Exceptionally smooth for 100 proof whiskey. Sweet and very accessible. Both newcomers and whiskey snobs will find us a tasty treat. The price point of this whiskey seems like a steal in relation to the quality that you receive from this bottled in bond delight.
