Planteray Original Dark Rum is part of our Dark Rum collection. It comes from Planteray Rum and is crafted in Barbados.
Planteray Original Dark Rum is a blend of 1-3 year old twin column- and pot-still rums from Barbados and 10–15 year old pot still, funk-driven Jamaican rum. Producing a rich, intense and smooth rum with incredible structure, Planteray Original Dark Rum is the ideal companion for classic aged rum cocktails and more.
It delivers exceptional complexity at an accessible price point. The elegant vanilla notes of the Barbados rum perfectly complement the robust and fruity funk of the Jamaican rum. It offers a genuine traditional dark rum profile without relying on heavy artificial coloring or excessive sugar.
This rum is a true workhorse for classic cocktails. Its best application is acting as the dark rum float in a Mai Tai or serving as the base in a Jungle Bird or Dark and Stormy. It also stands up exceptionally well when mixed simply with high quality ginger beer and fresh lime.
Nose: Rich aromas of black peppercorn, clove, cinnamon, baked cherry, prune, and molasses.
Palate: Round and fruity. Notes of white raisin, dried pineapple, and plum blend with brown sugar and sweet baking spices.
Finish: Spicy and slightly dry, leaving lingering flavors of clove, black tea, and dark fruit.
The blend starts with column and pot still rums from Barbados aged one to three years in ex bourbon barrels. Master Blender Alexandre Gabriel then incorporates traditional Jamaican pot still rums aged 10 to 15 years. The final blend travels to France, where it rests in wooden vats for up to six months to marry the flavors perfectly.

I tried this rum in a dark daiquiri with maple syrup and it had some very complex flavors (which I personally like) I love trying to figure out what this and that flavor is in a drink, with this rum specifically in a daiquiri it’ll leave you scratching your head trying to figure out what those flavors are, I love it highly recommend it to anyone.
While this rum is far from the most complex, and is low on funk for being blended with a Jamaican, it is approachable, affordable, **** delicious and carries itself firmly enough that it neither falls to the background of, or overwhelms the drink it’s mixed in and lends itself well to a wide host of applications. This is a permanent fixture in my home bar and when one bottle runs dry, it is swiftly replaced.

This rum is an amazing mixed, full of flavor and has a great variety of different rum styles all packed into one bottle. If you enjoy mixed rum drinks this is a must in my opinion. I find myself wanting to use it in everything, and the price point is perfect for that.
