This high-ester rum is distilled in pot stills at Worthy Park Estate, then aged for up to 5 years in once-used bourbon barrels, resulting in a complex spirit with notes of overripe banana, pineapple, and a hint of smoky molasses that adds depth and character to classic tiki cocktails and modern rum creations alike.

Hamilton Jamaican Pot Still Gold Rum is colored with gold tint caramel from Sethness. In both Hamilton Black and Gold Rums, approximately one liter of caramel colors 450 nine-liter cases of rum, less than three drops of caramel per 750ml bottle of rum.

.25 oz overproof Demerara rum, like Hamilton 151
.25 oz gold rum, like Hamilton Jamaican Pot Still Gold Rum
1 teaspoon grenadine, like Liber & Co. Real Grenadine
1 teaspoon chai syrup*
fresh mint and a curry leaf
Prepare the chai syrup ahead of time. Let cool to room temperature before using.
Add all the ingredients to a julep cup and fill the cup with crushed ice.
Combine with a swizzle stick.
Garnish with a sprig of mint and a curry leaf.

As an avid collector of quality rums, I was excited to finally try the Hamilton rum lines as they're not easy to find in my area. In summary, I don't plan on buying this version again. Although I love their Hamilton 86 Demerara selection, this pot still funk is not to my liking. It has a very 'grassy banana' linger on the palate that just doesn't work in my often go-to plantation punch. I've not tried it in a classic daiquiri yet, but typically if you don't care for it neat, then you probably won't care for it in a cocktail. As I've said often, "In order to have a good composite, you need to start with good components". In other notes, it's a very light and dry rum, I would not place it in a traditional gold rum category. I'll keep experimenting and sipping on it, perhaps I'll acquire a better taste for it.
