Interestingly, this vodka contains coumarin, a mildly toxic compound found in the bison grass, which is banned as a food additive in the United States - but don't worry, the amount in Zubrowka is too small to cause harm and instead imparts a distinctive vanilla-like flavor and aroma to the spirit.

The production process involves hand-harvesting the grass during its brief summer growing season, then carefully drying and blending it with the vodka to impart its distinctive vanilla and almond-like flavors.
The vodka seems to get a lot of hate, but as a sipping drink it is wonderful. I first had it in Poland and developed a taste for it. For the less adventurous, if you mix it with apple juice it will taste just like apple pie. I prefer it for sipping, however.
