Rothman & Winter Apricot Liqueur is a Fruit Liqueurs from the Rothman & Winter Liqueur brand crafted in Austria.

Rothman & Winter Apricot Liqueur captures the essence of ripe Klosterneuburger apricots, a prized variety grown in Austria's Wachau Valley. This artisanal liqueur is made using a centuries-old recipe that dates back to the Habsburg Empire, preserving a taste of Austrian history in every sip. Fun fact: The Klosterneuburger apricots used in this liqueur are so delicate that they're harvested by hand at night when temperatures are cooler, ensuring the fruit retains its perfect flavor and aroma for the liqueur-making process.

Why We Love It

Cocktail enthusiasts should seek out Rothman & Winter Apricot Liqueur for its intense, true-to-fruit flavor that captures the essence of ripe Klosterneuburger apricots, a prized variety grown in Austria's Danube Valley. Unlike many fruit liqueurs that rely on artificial flavors, this small-batch Austrian gem uses only fresh apricots and beet sugar, resulting in a pure, vibrant taste that elevates both classic and modern cocktails.

How to Drink It

Rothman & Winter Apricot Liqueur shines in refreshing summer cocktails, particularly those with a gin or vodka base, where its bright stone fruit flavors can take center stage. For a simpler serve, try it chilled and neat as an after-dinner digestif, or splash it over ice cream for a grown-up dessert that pairs beautifully with almond or vanilla-based sweets.

Tasting Notes

Nose: Fresh, ripe apricots dominate with a hint of almond-like stone fruit pit. Light floral notes reminiscent of orange blossom and honeysuckle. Subtle vanilla and honey undertones add depth.

Palate: Concentrated apricot flavor, true to the fresh fruit. Balanced sweetness with a touch of acidity. Smooth texture with a slight warming sensation. Nuances of peach, nectarine, and a whisper of citrus zest.

Finish: Medium-length with lingering apricot essence. Gentle spice notes emerge, reminiscent of cinnamon and nutmeg. Clean, crisp aftertaste with a pleasant fruit-forward sweetness that doesn't overpower.

How It's Made

Rothman & Winter Apricot Liqueur is crafted using ripe Klosterneuburger apricots, a prized variety grown in Austria's Wachau Valley. The fruit is macerated in a neutral grain spirit, then carefully blended with beet sugar and more apricot juice to create a vibrant, true-to-fruit flavor profile that captures the essence of fresh apricots.

Fun Facts

  • Rothman & Winter Apricot Liqueur uses a rare apricot variety called Klosterneuburger, which was originally cultivated by monks in the 18th century at Klosterneuburg Monastery near Vienna. This heritage fruit gives the liqueur its distinctive flavor profile.
  • Unlike many fruit liqueurs that use artificial flavors or extracts, Rothman & Winter infuses whole, fresh apricots directly into the spirit. Each bottle contains the essence of over 2 pounds of ripe fruit, resulting in an intensely aromatic and flavorful liqueur.
  • The liqueur's production process involves a unique "frost filtration" technique. After infusion, the liquid is chilled to near-freezing temperatures, causing excess oils and impurities to solidify and be easily removed. This results in a smoother, clearer final product without sacrificing flavor.

    Lucious

This is the only apricot liqueur I have had, but I probably won't try any others. Luscious on its own, played well with others in a mixed cocktail, except orgeat....overpowered it. A very special treat!

    Delicious

Bought this on a whim. Glad I did. Tastes like slightly fermented apricots. Able to stand alone or added to other flavors.

    Excellent apricot nose & flavor

I recently got the Luxardo apricot liqueur, and prefer this one instead. Fantastic in a Rainbow Sour:

    3 parts Pineau Des Charentes

    2 parts lemon juice

    1 part simple syrup

    1 part apricot liqueur

    3-4 drops 20% saline

Garnish with dried apricot and/or orange slice. A crowd pleaser.

Essential for my new favorite cocktail

This liqueur is fantastic! It gives wonderful notes of ripe stone fruit without being overly sweet. The only thing I've used it for so far is the Hotel Nacional Cocktail, and as far as I'm concerned it's worth it for that alone. It has quickly become my favorite cocktail and I would recommend anyone to get a bottle of this just to try it.

    Hotel Nacional Cocktail

1.5 oz. El Dorado 3 Year Light Rum

    0.5 oz. Apricot Liqueur

    1 oz. pineapple juice

    0.5 oz. lime juice

    0.25 oz. semi-rich simple syrup (1.5:1)

    Shake with ice and strain
