Wray & Nephew White Overproof Rum
About Wray & Nephew White Overproof Rum
Overproof rum, such as the Wray & Nephew White Overproof Rum, is characterized by its high alcohol content. This rum, which sits at a staggering 63% ABV, is no exception. It contains a powerful banana-funk spice that can be harnessed to create captivating cocktails. According to cocktail connoisseur Greg in his How to Drink episode: What is Rum? Wray and Nephew is quintessentially, cocktailer rum. Ever heard of Victor Bergeron? You may know him better as Trader Vic, whose chain of cocktail bars claim to have originated the Mai Tai in 1944. The heart of Trader Vic's Mai Tai? Wray & Nephew 17-Year-Old Rum, of course.
But what exactly is white rum? White rum, also known as light rum, is usually light-bodied (although there are a few heavy-bodied white rums in the Caribbean). It is typically clear and has a very mild flavor. Like other types of rum, white rum is usually made from sugarcane and distilled water. From humble beginnings in 1825 at the Shakespeare Tavern in Kingston, Jamaica, Wray and Nephew Rum has grown to become synonymous with Jamaican rum and tiki cocktails. It first won international acclaim at spirit exhibitions in Europe in the 1860s, earning gold medals in London, Paris, and Amsterdam by the end of the century.
In 1916, they acquired the other world-renowned Jamaican rum distillery, Appleton Estates. Today, brands directed by Wray & Nephew, who are in turn owned by Campari, account for 90% of Jamaican rum production.

It really is a shame it seems to have gone up in price, really loved this back when it was 20 dollars. Not going to ever find a rum like this with it's sweat almost rotten banna taste and slight woody nutty after taste. Recommend on Ice or in a Daiquiri, or as Bumbo or Grog.Best ForRated -1.0 on a scale of minus 2 to 2
