Habitation Velier Distillery de Port au Prince Rum is a Other Rum from the Habitation Velier Rum brand crafted in Haiti.

An aromatic spirit that's bottled at navy-strength 59% with a sky-high ester count of 289 grams per hectoliter of pure alcohol, making it one of the funkiest, most expressive rums you'll ever encounter from a country whose distilling traditions predate even Jamaica's legendary high-ester styles.

Why We Love It

Habitation Velier Distillerie de Port-au-Prince is a rare expression of Haitian terroir.

Tasting Notes

Nose: Opens with an immediate burst of fresh-cut sugarcane and wet grass, like walking through a cane field after rain.

Palate: Enters lively at 59% ABV with a rich, oily texture that coats the mouth.

Finish: Long and surprisingly smooth despite the proof.

How It's Made

This unique Haitian rum undergoes a fascinating double-distillation process using Müller stills first, pure Cristalline cane juice is fermented for 10-12 days and distilled to 25-30% ABV in a small 380-liter still, then redistilled in a larger 1,500-liter Müller still with 4 trays to reach 72% ABV before tropical aging and bottling at 59% with a hefty 289 gr/hLPA ester content that delivers serious funky character.

Fun Facts

  • This Haitian rum gets distilled twice in copper Müller stills, first at the cane farm to preserve those fresh, grassy flavors, then again at the distillery in Port-au-Prince.
  • With an ester count of 289 grams per hectoliter, this rum falls into serious funky territory.
