Habitation Velier Hampden LROK 2019 5 Year Sherry Cask Rum

This powerful, ester-rich Jamaican rum shines best when sipped neat or with just a splash of water.

Nose: Rich dark chocolate and cocoa powder lead, followed by liquorice and aged cedar. There's an earthy quality with dried autumn leaves and moss, plus herbal tea notes of thyme and bay leaf.

Palate: Dense and layered with surprising savory depth. Porcini mushroom and black truffle appear alongside roasted chestnuts.

Finish: Long and progressively sweeter. Dark chocolate cake intensifies, becoming more concentrated.

Distilled in 2019 at Jamaica's legendary Hampden Estate using traditional double retort pot stills, this LROK mark rum underwent wild yeast fermentation before spending five full years aging in ex-sherry casks a first for Hampden in the Habitation Velier range resulting in an exceptional 30% angel's share and an ester content of 292.20 gr/hlPA that showcases the distillery's mastery of intensely flavourful pot still rum production.

• This is the first time in Habitation Velier's history that Hampden has released a rum fully aged in sherry casks.
• Hampden uses a classification system of "marks" dating back centuries to categorize their rums by ester content, and this LROK (Light Rum Owen Kelly) sits in the 200-400 grams per hectoliter range. To put that in perspective, most standard rums contain less than 50 grams, this bottle packs nearly six times the flavor compounds, which is why it delivers those wild notes of mushroom, truffle, and chocolate cake that seem impossible from fermented sugarcane.
