Ferrand Dry Curaçao is a Fruit Liqueurs from the Ferrand brand crafted in France.

Essential for Mai Tais and Margaritas, Ferrand Dry Curaçao is an outstanding orange liqueur, a re-creation of a lost style of curaçao prevalent in the 19th century using the original Lahara oranges. Carefully crafted by the experts at Maison Ferrand, this unique elixir is a blend of Ferrand Cognac, unaged French brandy, and dried peel of bitter Curaçao oranges. Tasting notes include, sweet oranges and lemons, lightly-toasted sugarcane, with grilled almonds and prune.

Why We Love It

It completely revitalizes the orange liqueur category. Unlike modern triple secs that rely on heavy syrups and synthetic extracts, it offers a rich and bittersweet profile. The Cognac base adds a luxurious mouthfeel and deep spice notes that perfectly balance the bright orange zest.

How to Drink It

This is an essential modifier for premium cocktails. Its best application is upgrading classic recipes like the Margarita, the Mai Tai, or the Sidecar. Because of its complex Cognac base, it is also highly enjoyable sipped neat as a traditional digestif.

Tasting Notes

Nose: Vibrant aromas of orange blossom and candied citrus peel mixed with toasted wood and vanilla.

Palate: Rich and bittersweet. Flavors of bitter orange and tangerine blend smoothly with toasted almond, plum, and warm Cognac..

Finish: Long and dry, leaving pleasant notes of citrus oil, baking spice, and oak..

How It's Made

The process begins by macerating bitter Laraha orange peels, sweet oranges, and a proprietary blend of botanicals in unaged brandy. This infusion is then distilled and expertly blended with aged Ferrand Cognac to create the final spirit.

Fun Facts

  • The recipe was meticulously recreated from a nineteenth century formula to capture the exact style of orange liqueur used during the golden age of mixology.
  • It specifically uses the peels of the Laraha orange, a bitter green citrus fruit native to the island of Curaçao.
  • It was developed to be the ultimate historical mixing ingredient and has since become a mandatory staple in high end cocktail bars worldwide.

So nice to make a cocktail and not have to worry about how much sugar the Curaçao is bringing to the party.

    The answer to less-than-ideal margaritas

By itself, it's a solid orange liqueur, but where it really shines is mixed with tequila. For years, I've been making margaritas with Cointreau or other triple sec, and while I loved the ones with Cointreau, I always found they were far too dry and needed some added sweetness, while the ones made with other clear triple secs I found to be underproof or artificial tasting. This is exactly the bottle I was looking for to fix that issue. If you want to improve your margarita game, this is now my go-to. It even works great in cosmos, though it does darken the color a bit.
