Worthy Park 109 Jamaican Rum is a Other Rum from the Worthy Park Rum brand crafted in Jamaica.

Worthy Park 109 Jamaican Rum packs a punch at 54.5% ABV while showcasing the iconic "Jamaican funk" from high-ester pot-still distillation. Interestingly, this rum is made on one of Jamaica's oldest sugar estates, established in 1670 and still using traditional methods like growing their own sugarcane for a true farm-to-bottle experience.

Why We Love It

Cocktail enthusiasts should embrace Worthy Park 109 Jamaican Rum for its bold, 100% pot-still character and unique blend of aged and unaged high-ester rums, delivering authentic Jamaican funk and intense flavors at a potent 54.5% ABV – perfect for elevating classic and tiki cocktails with its unapologetic heat and rich complexity.

How to Drink It

Worthy Park 109 Jamaican Rum shines in bold tiki and tropical cocktails, but can also be savored neat or with a large ice cube to appreciate its complex flavors; it's an excellent choice for warm summer evenings and pairs beautifully with spicy jerk chicken or grilled pineapple desserts.

Tasting Notes

Nose: Bold aromas of ripe banana, pineapple, and orange peel burst from the glass. Underneath, there's a hint of cocoa, green plantain, and a touch of vanilla from the bourbon barrel aging. The high-proof alcohol is noticeable but not overwhelming.

Palate: Rich and full-bodied, with an initial sweetness reminiscent of crème brûlée. Tropical fruit flavors dominate - think grilled pineapple and overripe banana. There's a distinct coffee note mid-palate, followed by dark chocolate and a hint of molasses. The signature Jamaican "funk" comes through as a savory, almost umami quality.

Finish: Long and warming, with lingering notes of toasted oak, baking spices, and dried fruit. The high alcohol content (54.5% ABV) provides a pleasant burn that doesn't overpower the complex flavors. A subtle smokiness and hint of leather round out the experience, leaving you with a satisfying, dry finish.

How It's Made

Worthy Park 109 Jamaican Rum is crafted by blending light ester rum aged for three years in ex-bourbon casks with a small amount of unaged higher ester rum, then bottled at a potent 54.5% ABV. This 100% pot-still rum showcases Worthy Park's commitment to traditional Jamaican rum-making, with every step of production - from sugar cane cultivation to distillation and bottling - taking place entirely on their historic estate.

Fun Facts

  • Worthy Park 109 is named after its impressive proof (109 proof or 54.5% ABV), making it one of the boldest overproof rums on the market. This high strength allows the rum's complex flavors to shine through even when mixed in cocktails.
  • Despite its rich, dark appearance, Worthy Park 109 is actually a blend of mostly 3-year-old light rum with just a splash of unaged high-ester rum. This unique combination creates a flavor profile that's both smooth and intensely aromatic.
  • The rum is produced on the Worthy Park Estate, which has been continuously operating since 1670. It's one of the few "single estate" rums in the world, meaning every step from growing the sugarcane to bottling the final product happens in one location.

    Rum Punches Above It's Price

Even just opening this bottle by the smell alone you get hit with a wave of deep flavors. Caramel is present but the aroma is so rich it almost smells like chocolate. Sipping it straight you get everything you can smell and even more. The taste lingers for a long time and leaves your whole body feeling warm afterwards.

There aren't a lot of dark Jamaican rums that I'd recommend to people to sip but this one definitely is one of them. I can't wait to swap it where I'd usually use Coruba or Goslings.

This is a great affordable "dark Jamaican" rum!

When the cocktail calls for "dark Jamaican" a lot of the time it means Coruba and if you can't find that Myer's, but this blows them both out of the water! Coruba has a nice "caramel" nose to it and this has the same but more so and the Jamaican flavor is way better than either of those plus it still has that caramelness too. It's no Hampdon or the Single Barrel Worthy Park, but you could also use this as an every day (ie affordable) sipper. besides a good cocktail rum.
