Hamilton False Idol 151 Full Strength Rum is a Light Rum from the Hamilton Rum brand crafted in Jamaica and Guyana.

Hamilton False Idol 151 Full Strength Rum is a powerhouse overproof rum that packs a serious punch at 75.5% ABV. What's truly fascinating about this rum is that it's actually a blend of rums from two different countries - Guyana and Jamaica.

Why We Love It

After months of tasting and retasting, Anthony Schmidt and Ed Hamilton confirmed this blend of 85% Guyana and 15% Jamaican Pot Still Rum from the Worthy Park Estate as the blend that would stand up to the most exotic tiki drinks being poured at False Idol in San Diego.

How to Drink It

Hamilton False Idol 151 Full Strength Rum shines in tropical cocktails that call for a potent overproof rum, adding depth and a fiery kick to classic tiki drinks. While it's traditionally mixed into cocktails, adventurous drinkers might enjoy it neat or with a single ice cube on a hot summer evening, paired with spicy Caribbean dishes or rich desserts that can stand up to its intense flavors.

Tasting Notes

Nose: Molasses, brown sugar, and vanilla leap from the glass. Dried tropical fruits like banana and pineapple mingle with warm baking spices. A hint of oak and a subtle smokiness round out the aroma.

Palate: Rich and full-bodied. Dark caramel and toffee flavors dominate, balanced by notes of ripe mango and papaya. The high proof brings warmth and intensity, carrying flavors of nutmeg, cinnamon, and black pepper. A subtle earthiness reminiscent of tobacco leaf adds complexity.

Finish: Long and warming. The sweetness fades, giving way to lingering spices and a pleasant oakiness. Hints of coffee and dark chocolate emerge, along with a touch of sea salt. The heat from the high alcohol content persists, leaving a satisfying tingle on the palate.

How It's Made

Full strength Guyana rum at 154 proof and the Jamaican rum at 170 proof are blended together and slowly stirred for 48 hours before dilution to 151 proof with filtered well water at the Five & 20 Distillery in Westfield, NY..

Fun Facts

  • Hamilton False Idol 151 Rum is actually a blend of two distinct rums: one from Guyana and one from Jamaica. This unique combination creates a flavor profile that's both rich and complex, offering drinkers a taste of two of the Caribbean's most renowned rum-producing nations in a single bottle.

I like this a lot but there’s another I prefer.

So far I’ve used this in mostly the same places I use OFTD. This is quite good however given the option, I prefer OFTD. If for example you’re anti-Planteray over politics, this is a good option. I frequently sip OFTD with ice but I did not enjoy this on the rocks.
