Pelacañas Llamarada Rum is a Dark Rum from the Pelacañas Rum brand crafted in Mexico.

Pelacañas Llamarada Rum is a unique Mexican spirit made from 100% fresh-pressed sugarcane juice grown in the shadow of a volcano, offering intense tropical fruit flavors at still strength. Interestingly, it's crafted by a team that includes a "fogonero" or stoker, a traditional role in Mexican distilleries responsible for maintaining the perfect fire temperature during distillation, highlighting the blend of modern techniques and time-honored craftsmanship in every bottle.

Why We Love It

Cocktail enthusiasts will adore Pelacañas Llamarada Rum for its intense, fresh flavor profile derived from 100% estate-grown sugarcane juice cultivated in the shadow of Volcán de Tequila, and its unique production process involving wood fermentation and copper pot distillation that results in a bold, balanced spirit unlike typical molasses-based rums.

How to Drink It

Pelacañas Llamarada Rum shines best when sipped neat or with a single large ice cube to appreciate its bold, fresh flavors, though it also makes an excellent base for tropical cocktails on hot summer days; pair it with spicy seafood dishes or grilled pineapple for a delightful contrast.

Tasting Notes

Nose: Bright aromas of fresh-cut sugarcane and ripe tropical fruits dominate. Notes of papaya, pineapple, and green banana mingle with a hint of earl grey tea. There's a subtle undercurrent of wet grass and mineral tones, reminiscent of volcanic soil after rain.

Palate: Intense and full-bodied. The initial rush of sweet sugarcane juice is quickly balanced by a surprising buttery popcorn note. Layers of green apple, lime zest, and white pepper unfold. The high proof brings a pleasant warmth without overwhelming the delicate flavors.

Finish: Long and complex. The sweetness fades to reveal grassy, slightly vegetal notes. A lingering warmth carries hints of black tea tannins and a touch of oak. The finish concludes with a clean, mineral-driven dryness that invites another sip.

How It's Made

Pelacañas Llamarada Rum is crafted from 100% fresh-pressed sugarcane juice, fermented in open-top pine vats, and double-distilled using a unique combination of stainless steel and copper pot stills, resulting in an intensely flavorful, uncut spirit that captures the essence of its volcanic terroir.

Fun Facts

  • Pelacañas Llamarada Rum is made from sugarcane grown in the shadow of an active volcano - Volcán de Tequila in Jalisco, Mexico. The volcanic soil imparts unique mineral characteristics to the cane, resulting in a rum with subtle smoky undertones.
  • This rum's name, "Llamarada," means "fire burst" in Spanish, but it's also the name of a vibrant flower that grows at the distillery's hacienda. The dual meaning reflects both the rum's intense flavor profile and its connection to the local ecosystem.
  • Unlike most rums that use molasses, Pelacañas Llamarada is made from 100% fresh-pressed sugarcane juice, fermented in open-top pine vats. This traditional method, combined with a unique two-step distillation process involving both stainless steel and copper stills, creates a rum with distinctive notes of earl grey tea and buttered popcorn.

    MAD SAVORY YO

I mean smells kinda funky sugarcane banana and then some sharp salty umami comes through

tastes like sugarcane grass gas pepper it's dry the finish tastes like McDonald's bbq sauce. I don't understand the appeal. give me my Jamaican funk keep this. I hate having to pick a "best for" because in my opinion it's best for neither. this is almost as bad as the Sicilian rum I bought from here.
