A good variant to your usual rum Agricole

Charanda is a strong but light spirit made from pure sugarcane in Mexico. I've come to prize the blend of a grassy Agricole rum with the hint of smoke from a mezcal. This particular charanda features less of the smokiness that I want, but is still a good variation for cocktails that call for a rum Agricole or a light rum. My personal favorite is still Gustoso, if you can find it.

To try this one out, I prefer using this spirit in a Caiprinha, one of my favorite summer drinks:

    Caipirinha

    - 60ml (2oz) Uruapan Charanda

    - 1 small lime, cut into eight pieces

    - 3 barspoons of sugar, demerara or turbinado preferred.

Muddle lime and sugar in a rocks glass. Add charanda, stir. Add ice and mix. Optionally garnish with lime wedge.
