• Despite its powerful flavor, Ardbeg 10 Year is actually one of the lightest-bodied Islay whiskies. Its pale gold color comes from aging exclusively in ex-bourbon barrels, with no artificial coloring added.
• During Ardbeg's "dark years" in the 1980s, production was so limited that distillery workers would sometimes mow the lawns between the warehouses to pass the time. Today, those same lawns are home to Shortie, the distillery's famous Jack Russell terrier mascot.
