Maker's Mark Bourbon is crafted using a unique process that includes rotating their barrels during aging to ensure even exposure to temperature changes. One of the most interesting aspects of their production is the use of red winter wheat instead of rye in their mash bill, which contributes to the bourbon's distinctively smooth and approachable flavor profile.

• Maker's Mark is the only bourbon distillery to rotate its aging barrels by hand. Workers physically roll each 500-pound barrel from the upper floors to the lower floors of the rickhouse during maturation, ensuring more consistent aging throughout the barrel.
• The distinctive red wax seal on Maker's Mark bottles was actually inspired by cognac. Margie Samuels, wife of founder Bill Samuels Sr., collected cognac bottles and thought the wax-dipped tops looked elegant. She hand-dipped the first 100 bottles herself using a home fryer.
• Maker's Mark doesn't use rye in its mash bill, which is unusual for bourbon. Instead, they use red winter wheat, giving the bourbon a softer, sweeter flavor profile. This recipe came about when Bill Samuels Sr. literally baked loaves of bread with different grain combinations to find the perfect taste.
