View RecipesJust an FYI, I'm by no means an expert, this is just what I take from this bottle without getting too in depth, but this is an excellent bourbon, and one I'm certainly not used to. Even as an amature mixologist, I've always preferred bourbon as a base spirit, and Mitchter's US 1 Small Batch is really unique, first of all it's a little higher proof, at 90.14, and that is certainly noticeable for someone used to 80. This makes the bite come through just a little bit more in sweeter or more or less not so spirit forward drinks, which I really appreciate. It isn't super oaky either, which I find useful in cocktail recipes, since I've had oakyess take over some drinks before.
This stuff is great for sipping as well, served neat Mitcher's US 1 SB has a bit of complexity and quirks that I wasn't expecting. First of all, the nose is a little muted, likely due to the proof, but you can pick out corn and cherry if you get past the acetone. There's a touch of raisins or apple that hides a little in there though! Most bourbons traditionally lean on caramel/vanilla secondary flavors, Mitchter's US 1 SB is no exeption of course, but this stuff takes a cherry, earthy, honey kind of approach that is very pleasant and surprising. It's a touch sweet, but is very well balanced. There is a stone fruit flavor, apricot I think, in the background and an herbalness I can't quite place, because everytime I try and dig for it I just pick up a baking spice note in it's place, perhaps liqourish or…
