Ferrand Ambré Cognac is a Cognac from the Ferrand brand crafted in France.

Ferrand Ambré is a premier cru Cognac crafted exclusively from grapes grown in the prestigious Grande Champagne region. It stands out by blending traditional Ugni Blanc grapes with a rare touch of the Colombard varietal to create an exceptionally floral and fruit forward spirit.

Why We Love It

It offers a beautiful departure from heavily oaked Cognacs. By utilizing the Colombard grape and aging the spirit in medium toasted barrels, it highlights the fresh and vibrant essence of the vineyard. The result is a highly aromatic, elegant, and versatile Cognac that does not rely on heavy wood influence.

How to Drink It

Its bright and fruity profile makes it a fantastic aperitif. Its best application is poured neat in a tulip glass or served lightly chilled over a single large ice cube. It also performs brilliantly as the base spirit in delicate classic cocktails like a Sidecar or a Brandy Alexander.

Tasting Notes

Nose: Vibrant aromas of apricot, pear, and plum mix with delicate floral notes of rose and violet.

Palate: Smooth and fruit forward. Fresh apple and citrus give way to warm vanilla, cinnamon, and gently toasted almond.

Finish: Crisp and lingering, leaving subtle traces of sweet fruit, mild oak spice, and fresh vineyard blossoms.

How It's Made

The wine is made from Ugni Blanc and Colombard grapes grown entirely in the Grande Champagne cru. It is double distilled on the lees in small traditional copper pot stills to capture maximum aromatic complexity. The spirit then ages in French oak barrels in the humid cellars of Château de Bonbonnet.

Fun Facts

  • The name Ambré perfectly describes the natural golden amber color the spirit achieves during its barrel aging.
  • While most modern Cognac relies almost entirely on Ugni Blanc, this blend revives the historical tradition of using Colombard grapes to add intense floral notes.
  • The production process strictly avoids the use of added caramel coloring, allowing the authentic influence of the French oak to shine through.

This is my go-to for an easy sipping sazerac. Also works well when mixed with rye.
