1.5 oz aged rum, like El Dorado 5
1.5 oz simple syrup
0.5 oz Cherry Heering
1 oz lemon juice
2 dashes orange blossom water
Sparkling wine
Add all ingredients except sparkling wine to a cocktail shaker with ice. Shake.
Strain into a rocks glass with fresh ice.
Top with sparkling wine and garnish with mint.
A darker rum w the classic taste of cane sugar. Not sharp and the body serves as a good balance for any drink. Of course, she nice it's darker some of the cocktails may look more "smokey" but that's part of the allure
If you're looking for a demerara rum to mix tiki drinks this is my personal go to. The El Dorado 12 in my opinion is the best sipper of this line, I prefer it over the 15 year. But for cocktails I stick with this every time. It's cheaper, and once you add the citrus it's hard to tell them apart.
First off, I prefer this over the 8 year old when it comes to cocktails or simply mixed drinks in general. I would also categorize this rum with Plantation 5 year, if you enjoy that rum then this would be another welcomed addition to your home bar.
I got this because I love demerara rum and it's difficult to get in Oregon, minimum $40 without a sale. This stuff has the flavor that I seek! My only problem is that it doesn't have the same mouth feel as Hamilton or Lemon Hart. It's also not as proofy as I like, but it gets the job done. Totally worth it!
