Mijenta Blanco Tequila is a Tequila from the Mijenta Tequila brand crafted in Mexico.

Mijenta Blanco Tequila stands out with its unique flavor profile, combining notes of cantaloupe, honey, and vanilla with a peppery finish. Interestingly, this tequila is produced using sound waves during fermentation, a process believed to enhance the agave's natural flavors and create a smoother final product.

Why We Love It

Cocktail aficionados should seek out Mijenta Blanco Tequila for its uncommonly smooth, herbaceous character and commitment to sustainability. This small-batch highland tequila stands out for its use of fully mature agave plants (up to 12 years old) and its unique post-distillation oxygenation process, which enhances its already complex flavor profile of citrus, vanilla, and honey notes.

How to Drink It

Mijenta Blanco Tequila shines when sipped neat or on the rocks, allowing its crisp, herbaceous notes to take center stage. This versatile spirit also excels in citrus-forward cocktails or alongside grilled seafood and fresh summer salads, making it a perfect companion for warm weather gatherings and al fresco dining.

Tasting Notes

Nose: Fresh agave notes lead, followed by crisp citrus peel and green herbs. Hints of white pepper and mineral undertones emerge. Light floral accents reminiscent of orange blossom round out the aroma.

Palate: Smooth entry with pronounced cooked agave sweetness. Lemon and lime zest brighten the mid-palate. Vegetal notes of bell pepper and fresh grass add complexity. A touch of vanilla and almond provide balance. Peppery spice builds gradually.

Finish: Medium-long finish with lingering warmth. Pepper and agave dominate initially, fading to reveal subtle mineral and citrus notes. A clean, crisp ending with a slight earthy character and faint sweetness.

How It's Made

Mijenta Blanco Tequila is crafted using fully mature, hand-selected Blue Weber agave plants that are cooked in traditional masonry ovens and crushed with a tahona stone wheel. What sets this tequila apart is its unique fermentation process, which uses a proprietary yeast strain cultivated from local fruit orchards, imparting subtle notes of pear and citrus to the final spirit.

Fun Facts

  • Mijenta Blanco Tequila is made using a unique "Ancestral Method," which involves crushing the cooked agave with a traditional stone wheel called a tahona. This labor-intensive process, used by less than 1% of tequila producers, extracts more complex flavors from the agave.
  • The tequila's bottle design features a topographical map of the Jalisco highlands, with each contour line representing 10 meters of elevation. This subtle detail connects drinkers to the specific terroir where the agave is grown.
  • Mijenta partners with local communities to repurpose agave waste into paper products, transforming what would be discarded into notebooks and gift boxes. This innovative approach reduces waste and supports local artisans.

Outstanding sipper. If you're new to Blancos, this is a great example of what you've been missing!

After exploring Anejos, I realized that I'd been getting more barrel than spirit and needed to go back to the source, the purest, most agave-forward expression, the blancos. Mijenta stood out apart from Tequila Ocho, G4, El Tesoro, El Tequileno, Lalo - all wonderful blancos - but the clean, agave-wave of the Mijenta stood out time and time again. A citrus-y, slightly grassy intro gives way to the clean agave taste, with a mineral, almost salty finish. It's clean without being underpowered. Served neat, the flavors and the subtle interplay really stands out and invites another pour. Not overly expensive, it's a great addition to your collection and a great intro to blancos for your friends who may still be processing their Cuervo-trauma from college!
