Siete Leguas Tequila Blanco is a Tequila from the Siete Leguas Tequila brand crafted in Mexico.

Siete Leguas Tequila Blanco is a crisp, vegetal tequila that showcases the pure essence of blue agave with its bright, peppery notes and subtle hints of citrus. Interestingly, the brand is named after Pancho Villa's famous horse, which reportedly carried him through seven leagues (siete leguas) in a single day during the Mexican Revolution, symbolizing the spirit's strength and endurance.

Why We Love It

Cocktail aficionados should seek out Siete Leguas Tequila Blanco for its distinctive production methods, including the use of a tahona wheel to crush agave and small copper pot stills for distillation, resulting in a complex, herbaceous flavor profile. Unlike many mass-produced tequilas, Siete Leguas maintains traditional techniques, creating a spirit that beautifully showcases the true essence of blue agave with notes of pepper, citrus, and a subtle minerality that shines in cocktails.

How to Drink It

Siete Leguas Tequila Blanco shines when sipped neat or over a large ice cube, allowing its vibrant agave character and subtle herbal notes to take center stage. This versatile spirit also excels in citrus-forward cocktails, making it perfect for warm-weather sipping alongside light, fresh dishes like ceviche or grilled fish tacos.

Tasting Notes

Nose: Clean agave aroma with hints of citrus and green pepper. Light herbal notes of mint and grass. Subtle mineral undertones reminiscent of wet stone.

Palate: Smooth entry with prominent cooked agave flavors. Bright citrus notes of lemon and lime. Peppery spice builds, balanced by a touch of sweetness. Herbaceous qualities of cilantro and fresh cut grass emerge.

Finish: Medium-long finish with lingering agave sweetness. Peppery warmth fades slowly. Clean, crisp mineral notes leave a refreshing impression. Slight vegetal bitterness adds complexity.

How It's Made

Siete Leguas Tequila Blanco is crafted using a unique combination of traditional and modern production methods. The distillery employs both a tahona wheel to crush cooked agave and a modern roller mill, blending the resulting juices to create a tequila that captures the best of both worlds—the rich, earthy flavors from the ancient stone wheel process and the efficiency of contemporary techniques.

Fun Facts

  • Siete Leguas Tequila Blanco is named after Pancho Villa's famous horse, which reportedly could travel "seven leagues" (about 21 miles) without rest, reflecting the spirit's endurance and strength.
  • Unlike many modern tequila producers, Siete Leguas still uses a traditional tahona wheel made of volcanic stone to crush their agave, a process that takes 16 hours per batch but results in a more complex flavor profile.
  • The distillery behind Siete Leguas once produced tequila for Patrón, helping establish that brand's initial reputation for quality before Patrón built its own facility.
