Alpeggio Hay Liqueur is a Herbal & Spice Liqueurs  crafted in Italy.

Alpeggio Hay Liqueur captures the essence of sun-dried alpine meadow plants in a bottle, offering a unique taste of the mountains. Interestingly, this style of liqueur was historically used as a digestive aid by shepherds and farmers in the Alps, who believed the concentrated botanical flavors could ease stomach discomfort after a heavy meal.

Why We Love It

Cocktail enthusiasts will adore Alpeggio Hay Liqueur for its ability to transport them to sun-drenched alpine meadows with every sip, thanks to its unique blend of wild mountain valley hay botanicals. Unlike traditional spirits, this liqueur captures the essence of high-altitude flora, offering a harmonious mix of grassy, floral, and herbaceous notes alongside surprising hints of green tea, chocolate, and honey – making it a versatile and intriguing addition to both classic and innovative cocktails.

How to Drink It

Alpeggio Hay Liqueur shines when sipped neat or on the rocks, allowing its unique grassy and floral notes to bloom, but it also adds an intriguing Alpine twist to light, refreshing cocktails perfect for spring and summer gatherings. Its delicate flavors pair beautifully with fresh cheeses, herb-roasted poultry, or rustic fruit desserts, making it an ideal companion for al fresco dining on warm evenings.

Tasting Notes

Nose: Fresh-cut grass, chamomile tea, and wildflowers dominate the aroma. Subtle hints of cocoa powder and cinnamon bark emerge as the liqueur opens up. A touch of honey sweetness lingers in the background.

Palate: Herbaceous and slightly sweet, with flavors of green tea and dried hay at the forefront. Notes of milk chocolate and clover honey provide depth, while a whisper of cinnamon adds warmth. The texture is silky and medium-bodied.

Finish: Long and pleasantly grassy, with lingering floral notes reminiscent of alpine meadows. A gentle warmth spreads across the palate, accompanied by faint echoes of cocoa and honey. The finish tapers off with a clean, slightly minty freshness.

How It's Made

Alpeggio Hay Liqueur is crafted by carefully infusing high-quality spirits with a blend of hand-harvested alpine meadow hay and select botanicals. The hay is gently dried in the sun to preserve its delicate aromas before being steeped in the spirit, allowing the essence of the mountain meadows to slowly infuse into the liqueur.

Fun Facts

  • Alpeggio Hay Liqueur is made using actual mountain hay harvested from alpine meadows above 4,000 feet, where unique flora grows that can't be found at lower elevations.
  • The liqueur's recipe dates back to medieval monasteries, where monks used it as a medicinal tonic to treat respiratory ailments and boost immunity during harsh winters.
  • Each bottle of Alpeggio contains the essence of over 30 different wild herbs and flowers, including rare species like edelweiss and gentian, which contribute to its complex flavor profile.

Interesting but hard to mix with.

A complex liqueur, with mostly hay/grass, but also a floral element and tannic brewed tea. It's also fairly sweet. Overall it's certainly interesting, but I have found it difficult to mix with satisfactorily, and it's not something I would sip on on its own very often.
