• Jim Beam has been produced by seven generations of the Beam family, but the distillery's original name wasn't Beam at all. It was founded as "Old Tub" in 1795 by Jacob Beam, and only renamed to Jim Beam in 1943 after Prohibition ended.
• During Prohibition, the Beam family turned to growing citrus fruits and coal mining to make ends meet. When bourbon production resumed, they had to start from scratch, rebuilding their entire operation from the ground up.
• The iconic square bottle design of Jim Beam wasn't introduced until 1958. The distinctive shape was chosen because it was easier to pack and ship, and less likely to break during transport – a practical solution that became an enduring brand symbol.
