About Kuleana Nanea Aged Rum
Nanea was created to offer a properly aged rum without any added colors, flavors or sweeteners, and to show that great rum can be used in whisky drinks -- and make them even better! It is the Kuleana Rum Works answer to gold and dark rums, which rely on caramel colorings and syrups to give a barrel-aged appearance and to make them taste good. Just like a great whiskey or tequila, Nanea is aged in barrels to add depth and a rich amber color.
Definition of Nanea: The word means, “of absorbing interest, fascinating, enjoyable, tranquility.” It especially means “to have a good time.”

Candied caramel, vanilla, bourbon, Oloroso Sherry, dried mango, baking spices.
- Try Nanea in place of whiskey in your favorite cocktail!
- Kuleana Old Fashioned
- 1 oz Kuleana Huihui
- 1 oz Kuleana Nanea
- .25 oz Simple syrup
- 2 dash Angostura bitters
- 2 dash Chocolate bitters
- Method: Combine all ingredients with ice and stir. Strain into new glass with a large block of ice. Garnish with a slice of orange.

- 2 oz Kuleana Rum (Your choice)
- 1 oz Fresh lime juice
- .75 oz Simple syrup
Nanea is five carefully selected aged rums from around the world. Each is meticulously considered to discern its contribution to base, body and accent, until the blend is unmistakably Nanea. To create the base for this intriguing, round and balanced rum, a beautiful molasses-based rum from Guatemala, distilled to 90-94% ABV and aged in bourbon barrels for two years. To build its gorgeous depth and flavor through the body, a blend of two rums: Kuleana Rum Works' super-flavorful Aged Hawaiian Rum Agricole made from fresh sugarcane juice, distilled to 60%-74% ABV and aged 18 months in cognac barrels; and a rich molasses-based rum from Venezuela distilled to 85% ABV and aged 2-8 years in ex-bourbon barrels. To increase Nanea’s dynamic range and make it sing, the accent rums are two molasses-based rums from Trinidad (funky-rich) and El Salvador (mature oak), aged 3-5 years and five years in ex-bourbon barrels, respectively.
The Kuleana Rum Works team are farmers, blenders, and distillers. They grow ~35 heirloom varieties of kō (Hawaiian heirloom sugarcane), on their 44 acre farm on the Kohala coast on the island of Hawai‘i. They use this kō to create an exceptionally flavorful Hawaiian Rum Agricole, which provides the magic for their world-class family of blends. The distillery never uses any post distillation processing, ensuring all of the products are free of sweeteners, flavors, or coloring, resulting in a family of gluten free, sugar free, and 0 carb rums.
