Pusser's British Navy Rum
750ml & 84 Proof
What is Pusser's British Navy Rum?
Pusser's British Navy Rum faithfully recreates the spirit served to Royal Navy sailors for over 300 years, using the original Admiralty blend of five West Indian rums. Interestingly, the term "grog" originated from this rum tradition when Admiral Vernon, nicknamed "Old Grog" for his grogram cloak, ordered the rum to be diluted with water to combat drunkenness aboard ships.
Why do we love Pusser's British Navy Rum?
Cocktail drinkers should love Pusser's British Navy Rum for its authentic connection to naval history, being the only rum still blended to the Admiralty's specifications, and its distinctive flavor profile that comes from aging in used whisky and bourbon barrels, creating a robust spirit that stands out in classic rum cocktails.
How do you drink Pusser's British Navy Rum?
Pusser's British Navy Rum shines in classic tropical cocktails or sipped neat to appreciate its rich complexity, though it also stands up well on the rocks or with a splash of cola; it's particularly enjoyable on warm summer evenings or paired with hearty dishes like barbecue or spicy Caribbean cuisine.
Nose: Rich molasses and dark brown sugar dominate, followed by dried fruits like raisins and prunes. Hints of warm baking spices, particularly cinnamon and nutmeg, emerge alongside subtle notes of oak and vanilla from barrel aging.
Palate: Full-bodied and smooth with a syrupy texture. Intense flavors of caramel and toffee lead, complemented by dark chocolate, roasted coffee beans, and a touch of tropical fruit. The characteristic Demerara sugar sweetness is balanced by a pleasant oakiness and warm spices.
Finish: Long and warming with lingering notes of molasses, dark cocoa, and subtle smoky tobacco. A mild peppery heat builds, reminiscent of ginger and cloves, leaving a pleasantly dry sensation that invites another sip.
Pusser's British Navy Rum is crafted using a unique blend of five stills, including the world's last remaining wooden pot still, which imparts distinctive flavors and aromas to the spirit. The rum is then aged in charred oak barrels, resulting in a rich, full-bodied product that closely resembles the original Royal Navy rum ration.
