Two Mediterranean fruits come together in this delicious spiced and flavorful cocktail, which fits as perfectly for a holiday meal as it does for summertime sipping.
The star of the show is Mahia Fig Spirit, which is distilled from figs, and a traditional spirit of Morocco. Mahia has notes of anise seed which add subtle spice to the pomegranate juice (a store brand, like POM, is ideal here, if you can't even when it comes to peeling pomegranates!). The added depth of Ango bitters and the fragrant addition of cinnamon at the end mean this is a drink you'll be putting on your "make frequently" list, we guarantee it!
Ingredients
-
1.5 oz Mahia
-
1.5 oz pomegranate juice
-
.25 oz freshly squeezed lemon juice
-
.5 oz honey syrup*
-
1 egg white
-
dash of orange bitters
-
dash of Angostura bitters
-
cinnamon stick
-
fig and or apples slices to garnish
Directions
In a cocktail shaker without ice, add the Mahia, pom juice, lemon juice, and honey syrup.
Then add an egg white, and the two bitters, according to your preference. (We like to go heavy on bitters!)
Dry shake (still no ice) to fluff up the egg white.
Add ice and shake again.
Strain into a chilled cocktail glass and garnish with a fresh grating of cinnamon, ½ a fresh fig, and/or fresh apple slices.
Recipe Note
*To make honey syrup: add equal parts honey and hot water, let cool.
