Nose: Peat smoke dominates, accompanied by sea spray and iodine. Hints of lemon zest and black pepper emerge. Subtle sweetness reminiscent of vanilla and honey lingers in the background.

Palate: Intense smoky peat hits first, followed by briny seaweed and charred wood. Citrus notes of lemon and lime cut through, balanced by creamy vanilla. Spicy black pepper and anise provide complexity. Oily texture coats the mouth.

Finish: Long and warming. Smoke persists, gradually fading to reveal dark chocolate, coffee, and a touch of salt. Slight medicinal notes emerge. Leaves a dry, ashy aftertaste with lingering peppery spice.

Ardbeg 10 Year is crafted using malted barley that's dried over peat fires, imparting its signature smoky character. After distillation in copper pot stills, the spirit matures for a decade in ex-bourbon casks, allowing the intense peaty notes to mellow and mingle with vanilla and citrus flavors from the oak.

Ardbeg 10 Year is so intensely smoky that it was once used by a whisky blender to "fix" batches of blended Scotch that weren't peaty enough. They would add just a tiny amount of Ardbeg to bring the smoke level up to par.

Despite its powerful flavor, Ardbeg 10 Year is actually one of the lightest-bodied Islay whiskies. Its pale gold color comes from aging exclusively in ex-bourbon barrels, with no artificial coloring added.

During Ardbeg's "dark years" in the 1980s, production was so limited that distillery workers would sometimes mow the lawns between the warehouses to pass the time. Today, those same lawns are home to Shortie, the distillery's famous Jack Russell terrier mascot.

.5 oz Ancho Reyes Liqueur

2 oz spiced apple cider

1 oz lemon juice

.5 oz grenadine, we recommend Liber & Co.

Directions

Shake the first 6 ingredients with ice in a shaker for 15 seconds or so. Pour into a tall glass filled with crushed ice. Pour ginger beer over top. Stir gently. Garnish with any of a cinammon stick, star anise, orange wheel
