The Double, Double Toil & Trouble cocktail taps into the spooky spirit of Halloween by channeling the dark magic of the witches from Macbeth, whose chilling chant inspired its name. In Shakespeare’s play, the witches embody chaos and the supernatural, setting Macbeth’s fateful journey into motion. They represent temptation, mystery, and a world beyond our control—a fitting inspiration for a cocktail that’s complex, layered, and just a little bit wicked.
The drink’s foundation is built on two distinct styles of scotch. The Islay Scotch, with its signature smoky, peaty character, adds an air of danger and intrigue, evoking the foggy moors and dark, untamed forces at play in the witches’ world. To balance the intensity, a classic Highland scotch brings honeyed sweetness and fruity richness, offering a smoother, more approachable side to the drink, like a tempting lure before the chaos begins.
Adding to the bewitchment, Ancho Reyes Liqueur introduces a subtle heat that lingers, while spiced apple cider layers in autumnal flavors, grounding the drink in the season. Grenadine darkens the drink’s hue and adds a hint of sweetness, while fresh lemon juice cuts through the richness with its acidic bite. Topping it all off, ginger beer brings a fiery, effervescent finish, like a bubbling potion ready to unleash its magic.

1 oz Aberfeldy 12 Single Malt Scotch Whisky
.5 oz Ardbeg 10 Year Islay Single Malt Scotch
.5 oz Ancho Reyes Liqueur
2 oz spiced apple cider
1 oz lemon juice
.5 oz grenadine, we recommend Liber & Co.
Ginger Beer
Crushed ice
Shake the first 6 ingredients with ice in a shaker for 15 seconds or so.
Pour into a tall glass filled with crushed ice.
Pour ginger beer over top. Stir gently.
Garnish with any of a cinammon stick, star anise, orange wheel
*Please follow safety and handling instructions for dry ice if you go that route. It's no joke!
