Tasting Notes
Nose: Smoke and roasted agave dominate, accompanied by citrus, tropical fruit, and herbal notes. There's a hint of vanilla and caramel sweetness, balanced by earthy minerals.
Palate: Smoky and vegetal flavors lead, followed by green apple, lime, and black pepper. The mouthfeel is oily and full-bodied. Subtle hints of cinnamon and dark chocolate emerge as it opens up.
Finish: Long and warming with lingering smoke. Dried fruit and spice notes fade slowly, leaving a pleasant minerality and slight bitterness reminiscent of unsweetened cocoa.
How It's Made
Del Maguey Vida Mezcal is crafted using traditional methods in the village of San Luis del Rio, Oaxaca. The hearts of espadin agave are roasted in earthen pits, crushed by a horse-drawn stone tahona, fermented in wooden vats, and then double-distilled in copper pot stills, resulting in a smoky, complex spirit that captures the essence of its terroir.
