Cinnamon Girl: Citrus Spiced Agave Rum Cocktail
Here's an excellent and less-than-usual combination that will have you enjoying the way aged agave, funky rum, and cinnamon complement each other, with bright notes of citrus to round it out. This is a slightly modified version of a Death & Co Cocktail by the same name. Heads up, there's a minor amount of (well worth it) make-ahead prep!
Ingredients
2 oz Siete Leguas Reposado Tequila
.25 oz Smith & Cross Jamaican Rum
.75 oz fresh-squeezed lime juice
.75 oz Cinnamon Syrup (see recipe below)
1 dash Angostura Orange Bitters
1 orange, cut into wedges and for garnish
Method
Muddle two orange wedges in a shaker. Add in the rest of the ingredients. Add ice and shake. Strain into an ice-filled rocks glass, and garnish with an orange peel.
To make the Cinnamon Syrup: Muddle 5 cinnamon sticks until they are fairly broken up. Add 2 cups of sugar and 1 cup of water. Stir every now and then as you bring a boil. Once boiling, cover and lower heat to a simmer. Let simmer for 4 minutes, then turn heat off and let it cool overnight. Strain into a small container and keep refrigerated.
