Coconut Cartel started in 2012 when the Zig siblings smuggled 300 coconuts in a suitcase from an island off the coast of Central America to the shores of Miami Beach. Every week, they would fly up with a load of fresh coconuts and sell them to bars that would then spike them with rum to make a boozy coconut cocktail.
In 2018, inspired by their best selling cocktail, the Zigs launched Coconut Cartel Añejo Rum, a blend of single-origin Guatemalan añejo rum aged in new, charred American white oak barrels for 4 to 12 years, and cut to 80 proof with freshly harvested coconut water.
The Zigs work hand-in-hand with local farmers to harvest young coconuts at the perfect maturity 48 hours prior to blending with our añejo rum. The result is a one-of-a-kind and luscious sipping rum with subtle tropical aromas, umami and a touch of saltiness from the coconut water.
Coconut Cartel Añejo Rum is not sweet, and not “coconut-flavored”, as one might think. It is a rich, oaky, and savory sipping experience.
The Zig’s unrivaled access to Central American treasures, such as our reserve of the finest Guatemalan añejos and thousands of acres of coconut (and more) farmland, allows Coconut Cartel to ensure the use of the highest quality ingredients from field to bottle, and keeps all production local therefore minimizing carbon footprint.
Coconut Cartel does not use artificial flavors or coloring, and has only 1g of carbohydrates per serving (1.5 oz)
