Luxardo Maraschino Liqueur
About Luxardo Maraschino Liqueur
There are a lot of imitation cherry liqueurs out there. This is what they're imitating. The Luxardo marasca cherries harvested at the beginning of each summer are what give this liqueur its distinct sweet yet vibrant flavor. It's an essential bottle for the home bar and for those wanting to have a whole world of best-quality, inventive cocktails at their fingertips.
“The Luxardo Maraschino liqueur, a low- ABV Italian liqueur made from the marasca cherry, has offered up a handful of recipes for the liqueur-curious. These recipes include easy-to-make classics like the Hemingway Daiquiri, and other enticing cocktails, so grab a bottle of Luxardo and be prepared to master the art of at-home mixology.”- Forbes
Tasting Notes
Clear and bright, this cherry-flavored liqueur has an aroma more reminiscent of an eau de vie than a liqueur. On the palate, however, its texture is creamy and viscous. Its flavor is sugary up front, with an underlying heat, and a vibrant cherry flavor that shines through.
While it might prove a bit too thick and sweet to drink on its own, it's obvious why this liqueur plays an essential supporting role in classic cocktails like the Last Word and Aviation.
Suggested Serves
- Classic: The Aviation is always a winner: dry gin, lemon juice, Luxardo Maraschino liqueur
- Unexpected: Do as they do in Rome, sip neat as an after dinner drink. Also ideal spooned over fresh fruits like strawberries, pineapples, or peaches.

Production Notes
This clear cherry liqueur is made from Sour Marasca cherries. The Luxardo family cultivates the cherries in the orchards of the Euganean Hills in Veneto. They use a special formula created by Girolamo Luxardo in 1821 to produce the liqueur.
Each summer starts with the cherry harvest. Orchard harvesters place the cherries, branches, and leaves in larchwood vats for two years and infuse them with neutral alcohol. They then distill this infusion, including the solids. Finally, they age the cherry distillate in large Finnish ash wood vats for a 12-18 months.
