Rhum J.M VSOP is aged for 4 years: 3 years spent in new American oak then finished in French oak for 1 year before being blended and bottled. This results in an intensely structured palate and a spicy, nougaty richness.

Tasting Notes for Rhum J.M VSOP Martinique Aged Rum

The nose is dominated by exotic fruit and quince paste followed by vanilla bean and wood. The exotic fruit aromas are embellished on the palate and complimented with lavender and cinnamon. Further exploration reveals gingerbread an honey, creating a nice balance of structure and harmony.

Suggested Serves

Rhum J.M VSOP is great sipped neat or over a large ice cube. It can also be used to elevate an old fashioned or Manhattan, in a rum punch, or shaken in a sour. The classic way to enjoy an aged rhum agricole is in a Ti Punch Vieux.  Ti Punch Vieux: 1.5 - 2 oz Rhum J.M VSOP 1 lime coin, squeezed into glass A spoonful of sugar in the raw or sirop de canne Add ingredients to the glass and aerate with a swizzle stick or spoon to release lime oils and bring flavors together. Traditionally sipped without ice, but as the saying goes in Martinique, chacun prepare sa propre mort! This cocktail is endlessly adaptable and meets the moment perfectly every time.  Jungle Oiseau 1.5 oz Rhum J.M VSOP .75 oz Campari .5 oz lime juice .5 oz simple syrup 1.5 oz pineapple juice Add all ingredients to a cocktail shaker with ice. Shake until chilled then strain into your favorite rocks glass filled with ice. Garnish with a pineapple wedge and enjoy!

Production Notes

Rhum J.M sits at the base of Mount Pelee, an active volcano on the north side of the island of Martinique. Rhum J.M is made using fresh pressed sugarcane juice, as is typical in Martinique and required to use the AOC Rhum Agricole designation. Their sugarcane grows around the distillery, benefitting from volcanic soil, and goes from harvesting to fermenation in 1 hour. Rhum J.M VSOP is aged for three years in new American oak then rested in a combination of ex-Bourbon and French oak an additional year before being blended and bottled.
