Cocktails for Prime Citrus Season

It may still be winter in much of the US, but one of the best things about February is that it's when citrus really shines. Here are three different ways to make the most of winter's freshest flavors. 

gin and grapefruit cocktails

1.5 parts Bulrush Gin
1 part Cocchi Americano Bianco
1 part fresh-squeezed grapefruit juice
1 sprig thyme

Shake all ingredients with ice and strain into an ice-filled glass. Garnish with a wedge of grapefruit and a sprig of thyme.

Bourbon Sour Blood Orange Cocktail

2 1/4 oz bourbon
1 oz blood orange juice
1 oz lemon juice
1 oz simple syrup
1/2 oz lime juice

Fill a cocktail shaker with ice. Add in blood orange juice, bourbon, simple syrup, lemon and lime juice. Stir until the shaker frosts. Pour into a glass with a single ice cube and garnish with a blood orange slice and a (optional!) maraschino cherry.

Planter's Punch Jamaican Rum Punch recipe

2 oz dark rum
1 oz fresh pineapple juice
1 oz fresh orange juice
1 oz fresh lime juice
dash of Angostura bitters
1/4 ounce grenadine (optional)

Shake all ingredients with ice and strain into a rocks glass filled with ice. Garnish with lime and orange wheels.
