This is a great anytime cocktail, featuring 3 simple ingredients: orange juice, banana liqueur, and a high-quality rum.
The flavors make this drink perfect for brunch, but they also are a little taste of tiki, without going full tiki. Let's call it semi-tiki.
Because there are just a few ingredients here, we recommend keeping them top quality. We're fans of the banana liqueurs from both Giffard (Banane du Brésil) and Tempus Fugit (Crème de Banane).
We also think a high-quality rum is essential, since the flavor really shines here. And high-quality doesn't have to mean out of reach! All of our recommended rums fall between $21-$35. Probitas is an excellent choice, as is The Real McCoy 3 Year. Plantation 3 star is also a winner. And, if it's possible, fresh-squeezing orange juice will really take this one over the top. But don't worry --if all you've got on hand is a can of frozen, that will do just fine.

This is a damn delicious cocktail—by far the best I’ve made with the Banane du Bresil I’ve been experimenting with. I used Bumbu rum. I’ve tried the recipe with 1 oz and 1.5 oz of rum instead of the 2 oz since Bumbu has such a powerful flavor, which works equally well IMO. Fresh squeezed mandarin is amazing in there, as you’ve noted. But even lemonade sufficed for a go when I was out of oranges. Fine indeed. A new favorite.

ZOMFG This is delicious! Simple to make, complex on the pallet.

I made it with a split base of 1 3/4 oz of the 3 yr and 1/4 oz of the Probitas along with 3 drops of Bittermen’s tiki bitters and it was delicious!
