Cold Weather Cocktails: Citrus Grove Hot Toddy

Previous: Midnight Orchard: a cocktail recipe featuring Calvados, Amaro Averna, and Amontillado Sherry

A hot toddy mug with slices of orange and cinammon surrounding it.

This hot toddy uses Grand Marnier (you can also use Dry Curaçao) and amaro, not whiskey, as the base spirits, giving delicious layers of orange, herbs, and spice to that wonderful apple cider lemon combo.  Perfect deep winter drink.

Ingredients

1.5 oz Grand Marnier (or Pierre Ferrand Dry Curaçao)
.5 oz Amaro Averna
1/4 tsp pat of salted butter
4 oz hot apple cider
.25 oz lemon juice
Orange or lemon to garnish

Method

Add first three ingredients to a heatproof mug.  Pour in hot apple cider and stir until butter dissolves. Add up to .25 oz of lemon juice to taste, depending on how tart your apple cider already is.  Garnish with an orange slice or lemon wheel.
