August 1 is National Spritz Day and we've got just the bubbly twist you need:
The South Slope Spritz! This isn't your average spritz—it's a fizzy fusion that joins a new modern craft cocktail classic with the easy-drinking qualities of a spritz.
A 2007 original from Michael Madrusan, named after his Brooklyn neighborhood, The South Slope combines gin, Aperol, Lillet Blanc, orange Curaçao, and lemon juice. It cemented its reputation in the "new modern" pantheon by being featured in Jim Meehan’s "The PDT Cocktail Book." It's a cocktail with layers of bittersweet, complex flavor and today, we're taking it down a notch in oomph but up a notch in fizzy flavor by adding some sparkle.
Think of it as the South Slope cocktail putting on its flip flops. London dry gin and the floral notes of Lillet Blanc take on an airy lightness, and Aperol’s bittersweet bite is rounded out. It's like a Negroni got invited to a pool party and decided to let loose.
This light, effervescent drink is perfect for spritz day—or any day you need a little sparkle. It’s refreshing, it’s punchy, and it’s great for a crowd. So, grab your shaker, pop that sparkling water, and let's get spritzy with The South Slope Spritz.
